A Visual Diary of a COVID Year in 52 Mugs
“Nuala Creed came up with a brilliant way to express the broad range of emotions bubbling up during the strange, uncharted days of the COVID pandemic. When we all are were struggling to deal with unknowns, grief, and loneliness, she turned to clay and creativity to convey her individual experience and feelings on a weekly basis. In the process, she spoke for so many of us. She captured little life moments and huge life-altering events—the joy, pain, confusion, loss, anger, humor, and fear of these times. Looking back after almost four years, her mugs poignantly and beautifully remind us of what we went through, sparking memories of our own little moments. Thank you Nuala”
During the surreal and seemly endless time of Covid I made a visual diary of a year in 52 mugs. My mugs are intimate hand made objects made to invite reflection on those harrowing Covid years.
My mugs reflect an emotional journey of the strange time of isolation and sorrow during Covid. When we were cut off from friends, family and community. Yet there were some positives sides, we learned what was important to us. We became more independent, more reflective of ourselves, slowed down enough to enjoy the simple joys of life.
